Addressing a press conference at Bodofa House in Kokrajhar, ABSU president Kwrwmdao Wary alleged that a majority of Bodo medium students across Assam are yet to receive textbooks even one month after the academic session began on April 1.

The student body termed the delay in textbook distribution a violation of the fundamental Right to Education under Article 21A of the Constitution and the Right to Education Act, 2009. ABSU stated that a memorandum has already been submitted to the Chairman of SEBA seeking immediate intervention.

The organisation demanded urgent distribution of all pending textbooks to students of different classes across the state.

ABSU also urged the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) to provide genuine Bodo Dokhona uniforms for students of Classes IX to XII and quality cotton uniforms for elementary-level students. The union criticised the use of polyester uniforms distributed in previous years and stressed the need to respect traditional attire, particularly the GI-tagged Bodo Dokhona and Assamese Mekhela.

Among its other demands, ABSU called for timely distribution of school bags and other educational materials, filling up vacant posts of Bodo medium teachers from lower primary to postgraduate levels, and immediate appointment of elementary teachers in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) areas where interviews have already been conducted.

Expressing concern over the state of Bodo medium education despite the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, ABSU alleged continued neglect and “step-motherly treatment” towards Bodo medium students.

The student organisation warned that it would move the High Court through a writ petition if the issues remain unresolved and the Right to Education continues to be violated.

ABSU has fixed May 18, 2026 - marking 63 years of the introduction of Bodo medium education in Assam - as the deadline for the concerned departments to address its demands.
