ECI Notifies New Assam Assembly; Chief Secretary Congratulates Voters and Officials

Guwahati, May 6, 2026: The Election Commission of India has formally notified the names of the newly elected Members of the Assam Legislative Assembly following the 2026 general elections, marking the completion of the electoral process in the state.

According to a statement shared by the Office of the Chief Secretary, Assam, the notification was issued pursuant to the Governor’s order under Section 15 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, under which elections were held on April 9, 2026, to constitute a new Assembly. The final notification of elected members has been issued under Section 73 of the Act.

Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota congratulated the people of Assam and all political parties for their peaceful and enthusiastic participation, describing the election as a strong reaffirmation of democratic values.

He extended his congratulations to all newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly, expressing hope that they would serve with wisdom, integrity, and a commitment to public welfare.

The Chief Secretary also conveyed gratitude to the Election Commission of India for its guidance and support throughout the process. He acknowledged the role of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Assam and the entire election machinery, including District Election Officers, Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers, and polling personnel drawn from across various departments.

He further appreciated the contribution of officials from both state and central governments who ensured the smooth conduct of the elections. Special mention was made of the efforts of the Assam Police, led by the Director General of Police, along with Central Armed Police Forces, for maintaining law and order and ensuring a secure environment during the polls.

The successful conduct of the elections reflects the coordinated efforts of multiple agencies and highlights the strength of democratic institutions in the state.
