The oath-taking ceremony was held at Nuai Auditorium Hall in Khumulwng, where Chandra Kumar Debbarma also took oath as Executive Member (EM). The event was attended by senior leaders and elected representatives of the TIPRA Motha Party.

Speaking after assuming office, Debbarma said he would serve the people with sincerity, transparency, and dedication. He highlighted the financial constraints faced by the council and stated that efforts would be made to urge both the state and central governments to enhance budget allocations for the TTAADC.

“We are receiving very limited funds from the state government. Despite that, we have been working over the past five years. We will request additional funds with the support of our MLAs, MDCs, and party leadership,” he said.

Debbarma also emphasised that the political struggle for indigenous rights would continue at the party level until core demands are fulfilled. He expressed hope that progress would be made on the long-pending TIPRA Accord, particularly now that major elections in states like Assam and West Bengal have concluded.

On governance, the new CEM outlined key priority sectors, including education, healthcare, and drinking water, stating that his administration would focus on delivering essential services despite financial limitations. He added that his previous experience as a Member of District Council (MDC) would help him carry out his responsibilities more effectively.

The political significance of Debbarma’s elevation comes after the TIPRA Motha Party secured a decisive mandate in the TTAADC elections, winning 24 out of 28 seats. The strong electoral backing is expected to strengthen the council’s position in negotiations related to indigenous rights and development.

With a dual focus on governance and political advocacy, Debbarma’s tenure is set to shape the future of development and representation in Tripura’s tribal areas.
