Guwahati, Mayy 25: Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota on Monday met Jordan Martinez Vazquez, Attaché and Regional Security Officer of the European Union Delegation to India, Bhutan and Nepal, who is currently on a visit to the state, and held detailed discussions on Assam’s evolving security, economic and developmental landscape.
According
to officials, the meeting focused on the emergence of a “New Assam” under the
leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma, highlighting the state government’s efforts
in improving governance, infrastructure, law and order, and investment
opportunities.
During
the interaction, the Chief Secretary highlighted the significant progress
achieved in strengthening the law and order situation across Assam. Women’s
safety, reduction in incidents of wildlife poaching and improved public
security mechanisms were among the major issues discussed.
The Chief
Secretary also briefed the visiting European Union official about Assam’s
progress in implementing the new criminal laws and strengthening administrative
efficiency through legal and institutional reforms.
Apart
from security-related developments, discussions also covered Assam’s rapidly
expanding infrastructure sector, including transport connectivity, urban
development and modern public facilities. The Chief Secretary informed the
delegation about the state’s progressive labour reforms and its growing
investor-friendly ecosystem aimed at attracting both domestic and international
investments.
Officials
stated that Assam’s strategic geographical location as a gateway to Southeast
Asia was another key focus of the meeting. The Chief Secretary highlighted the
state’s potential to emerge as an important economic and trade hub connecting
India with neighbouring Southeast Asian countries.
The
meeting also explored possibilities for deeper collaboration between Assam and
European institutions in areas such as biodiversity conservation, sustainable
development and ecological resilience, where both sides were said to share
common interests.

Jordan
Martinez Vazquez reportedly appreciated the arrangements made during his visit
and interactions held at various administrative levels in the state. He also
expressed admiration for the modern infrastructure and facilities at the new
terminal of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati.
Officials
described the interaction as constructive and said it reflected Assam’s
increasing engagement with international stakeholders amid its ongoing push
towards economic growth, sustainable development and stronger governance
systems.
