APCC Urges Arunachal Govt to Ensure CUET Centres Across State

In a statement, the APCC expressed concern that the current concentration of CUET centres in and around the capital region has created significant barriers for students, particularly those from remote districts such as Tawang, Anjaw, Longding, Tirap, and Upper Siang. Many students are reportedly compelled to travel to neighbouring Assam to appear for the examination.

The CUET, conducted by the National Testing Agency, serves as a key gateway for admission into central universities and premier higher educational institutions across the country. The APCC noted that limited access to examination centres undermines equal opportunity for students in Arunachal Pradesh, especially those from economically weaker backgrounds.

According to the party, students face multiple challenges, including long-distance travel across difficult terrain, financial burdens related to transportation and accommodation, and mental and physical stress that can affect performance. There is also a risk of students missing examinations due to logistical delays, potentially resulting in the loss of an academic year.

The APCC emphasised that establishing additional CUET centres within the state would significantly ease these challenges by ensuring equitable access, reducing costs, and providing a more conducive environment for students. It added that such a move would also contribute to strengthening educational and digital infrastructure in remote and border districts.

The party has called on the state government to take up the issue with the Central Government and the NTA on priority. It suggested setting up examination centres in key locations such as Pasighat, Tezu, Bomdila, Aalo, and Ziro, while ensuring a more balanced distribution beyond the capital.

The APCC also stressed the need for improved infrastructure for conducting computer-based examinations and greater awareness efforts at the district level to support students throughout the process.

Highlighting the broader implications, the party stated that access to education should not be determined by geography or infrastructure limitations, and urged authorities to act swiftly to ensure equal opportunities for the youth of Arunachal Pradesh.
