The announcement was made by AAPSU President Meje Taku during an event at Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills. Describing the initiative as a tribute to courage and truth, the union said the statue would honour Padang’s role in exposing corruption and his commitment to integrity.

AAPSU also formally reserved land for the memorial at the 6 Kilo site, near a temple and market area, coinciding with Padang’s third death anniversary. Members of the union, along with supporters and local residents, gathered at the location where a commemorative board was installed and the site was symbolically prepared for construction.

Calling the proposed monument “a symbol of courage rising where truth once fought alone,” the student body said the statue aims to inspire future generations to uphold honesty and stand against corruption.

Speaking at the event, Taku stated that AAPSU would seek financial support from the government but affirmed that the union would proceed with the project using its own resources if required.

The initiative comes in recognition of Padang’s role in exposing the APPSC paper leak case, which triggered widespread public outrage and significant socio-political developments in the state. AAPSU leaders emphasized that the memorial would serve as a lasting reminder of the importance of transparency, accountability, and merit-based governance.

Further details regarding the design, funding, and timeline of the project are expected to be announced in the coming days.
