Guwahati, May 12: Assam witnessed one of the largest gatherings of political leadership in Northeast India as BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term on Tuesday at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, Guwahati.
According to officials, the grand swearing-in ceremony was attended by one Governor, 11 Union Cabinet Ministers, two Union Ministers of State, 20 Chief Ministers, and 18 Deputy Chief Ministers from various states across the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, senior BJP leaders, NDA allies, and several prominent political figures were present during the ceremony, underlining Assam’s growing political significance at the national level.
Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from states including Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana attended the event.
Along with Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP leaders Rameswar Teli and Ajanta Neog, AGP leader Atul Bora, and BPF leader Charan Boro also took oath as ministers in the new Council of Ministers.

Officials described the ceremony as a “historic and defining moment” for Assam and the Northeast, highlighting the state’s emergence as a key centre of political attention and influence in India.
The event also witnessed the presence of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP president Nitin Nabin, Padma awardees, religious leaders, sportspersons, industrialist Gautam Adani, and thousands of supporters and citizens from different walks of life.
The BJP-led NDA alliance returned to power in Assam after securing a massive victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections, winning 102 seats in the 126-member Assembly.
