In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the council said the incident occurred in broad daylight and described the act as highly condemnable. It stated that such obstruction of essential goods on public roads violates basic principles of humane conduct and has raised alarm among residents dependent on the highway for daily supplies.
The council further noted that the situation in the state continues to pose serious governance challenges despite efforts by several civil society organisations to restore peace and uphold the rule of law. It said no visible or effective response has been implemented so far to address the concerns raised.
Referring to the broader crisis in the region, the council said communities have endured attempts at ethnic cleansing, displacement from homes, and the loss of hundreds of lives over the past three years.
The organisation also warned that continued insecurity and disruption of essential supplies could intensify calls for separation, particularly among affected tribal communities in Churachandpur district.
The council urged the Government of Manipur to act swiftly and demonstrate its commitment to safeguarding the welfare and protection of its citizens.
