Women’s Voices Must Be Heard: BJP Mahila Morcha Holds Torch March in Dimapur

Dimapur, April 28, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha Nagaland organised a torch march in Dimapur on Tuesday, calling for greater political representation for women and protesting the rejection of the proposal for 33 percent reservation for women in legislative bodies.

Held under the theme “Women’s Power and Dignity – Opposition Insulted Again,” the march drew participation from women leaders, party workers, and supporters from different parts of the district. Carrying torches and banners, participants marched through designated routes in Dimapur to highlight the need for stronger representation of women in governance and decision-making processes.

The event was organised as part of the Mahila Morcha’s ongoing campaign to raise awareness about women’s political rights and to advocate for equal opportunities in leadership and public life. Participants described the march as a peaceful demonstration aimed at amplifying women’s voices and emphasizing the importance of inclusive governance.

Addressing the gathering, T. Rothrong, President of BJP Mahila Morcha Nagaland, said women can no longer be sidelined in politics and public affairs. She stressed that equal participation of women in governance is essential for building a stronger and more equitable society. According to her, women contribute significantly to social, economic, and community development and therefore deserve adequate representation in legislative institutions.

Rothrong further stated that the demand for 33 percent reservation is not merely a political issue but a matter of equality, dignity, and justice. She urged women to remain united and continue advocating for their rightful place in leadership roles at all levels.

The programme also featured an address by Sano Ngullie, who attended as the guest of honour. She highlighted the importance of empowering women and creating an environment where they can actively participate in decision-making processes. Ngullie emphasized that greater representation of women in governance would contribute to more balanced and inclusive policymaking.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Yepthomi, President of BJP Nagaland, reiterated the party’s commitment to the vision of Nari Shakti and inclusive development. He said the demand for 33 percent reservation reflects a broader effort to ensure that women have a stronger voice in shaping policies and governance.

Yepthomi encouraged women to take leadership roles and actively contribute to nation-building. He stated that the progress of Nagaland and India depends on the full participation of women in political, social, and economic spheres.

Participants described the torch march as a symbol of solidarity, determination, and hope. They reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of equality, dignity, and justice, while pledging to continue advocating for greater political representation and empowerment of women.

The programme concluded with a renewed call for women's reservation and increased participation of women in democratic institutions, with organizers expressing confidence that sustained awareness and collective action would help advance the cause of gender equality in governance.
