Women Across Sikkim Rally in Support of Nari Shakti Vandhan Adhiniyam

Gangtok, April 17: A large number of women from across Sikkim came together on Friday to participate in a rally expressing their support for the Nari Shakti Vandhan Adhiniyam, demonstrating solidarity for women's empowerment, equal representation, and greater participation in governance. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from women representing constituencies across the state, reflecting a collective commitment to strengthening the role of women in public life.

The rally was hailed by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), who described the occasion as a proud moment for Sikkim and a powerful demonstration of unity, determination, and empowerment. In a message shared on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the overwhelming participation of women from different regions of the state symbolised the growing awareness, confidence, and leadership of women in shaping the future of society.

Tamang noted that mothers, sisters, and daughters from across Sikkim had gathered with a common purpose—to support a landmark initiative aimed at ensuring greater representation of women in India's democratic institutions. He said the rally reflected the collective aspirations of women who are increasingly taking active roles in governance, community development, and nation-building.

The Chief Minister extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all participants, appreciating their enthusiasm and commitment towards promoting women's empowerment. He observed that such collective efforts would contribute significantly to building a more inclusive, progressive, and equitable society where women are encouraged to participate in leadership and decision-making at every level.

Describing the Nari Shakti Vandhan Adhiniyam as a historic milestone in India's democratic journey, Tamang said the legislation represents a transformative step towards enhancing women's representation in legislative bodies and strengthening their role in governance. He credited the initiative to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that it reflects the nation's commitment to creating greater opportunities for women and promoting women-led development.

The Chief Minister further said that the Act would inspire future generations of women to pursue leadership roles with confidence while reinforcing the principles of equality, inclusion, and democratic participation. According to him, increased representation of women in public institutions would help create policies that are more inclusive and responsive to the needs of society.
