Nagaland Governor Felicitates NCC Cadets for Saramati Peak Expedition

Kohima, April 16: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav felicitated cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Nagaland during a special ceremony held at Lok Bhavan, Kohima, in recognition of their successful expedition to Mount Saramati, the highest peak in Nagaland.

The event was organized to honour the achievements of the NCC cadets, officers, and staff members who participated in the expedition and demonstrated exceptional courage, teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. A total of 50 cadets and officials associated with the Mount Saramati Expedition Team were felicitated during the programme for their accomplishment and commitment to adventure and leadership activities.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Yadav expressed his pride and admiration for the cadets, describing their achievement as a testament to the values of dedication, discipline, and determination that the NCC seeks to instill in young people. He congratulated the team for successfully scaling Mount Saramati on March 19, 2026, and acknowledged the efforts of the officers, instructors, and support staff who contributed to the success of the expedition.

The Governor noted that undertaking and completing such a challenging expedition requires physical endurance, mental resilience, and strong teamwork. He said the successful ascent of Mount Saramati reflects the high standards of training and commitment maintained by the NCC in Nagaland.

Yadav also highlighted the notable participation of girl cadets and lady Associate NCC Officers in the expedition. He described their involvement as a powerful example of women’s empowerment and an indication of the growing role of women in adventure sports, leadership, and other challenging fields traditionally dominated by men. He encouraged more young women to take part in such activities and pursue opportunities that help build confidence and leadership skills.

During his address, the Governor praised the various youth development initiatives undertaken by NCC Nagaland in recent years. These include Vibrant Village visits, Yuva Aapda Mitra disaster management training, Youth and Alumni Festivals, National Integration Camps, trekking expeditions, and other programmes aimed at fostering leadership and social responsibility among young people.

He also acknowledged the NCC’s collaborative efforts through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with institutions such as the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). According to the Governor, such partnerships provide cadets with valuable opportunities to acquire practical skills and enhance their employability.

Emphasizing the broader role of the NCC, Yadav said these programmes contribute significantly to promoting national integration, character building, personality development, and skill enhancement. He noted that the experiences gained through NCC activities help prepare young people to become responsible citizens and future leaders capable of contributing positively to society and the nation.

The felicitation ceremony celebrated not only the successful Mount Saramati expedition but also the spirit of adventure, discipline, and service embodied by NCC cadets. Officials said the event served as an inspiration for youth across Nagaland and reaffirmed the NCC’s important role in shaping future generations through leadership, training, and nation-building activities.
