Siaha, April 28, 2026: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday held a high-level review meeting with officials of Siaha district through video conferencing to assess the situation in the border district and discuss key issues related to security, development, governance, and public welfare.

The interaction was conducted from the MINECO Secretariat Conference Hall in Aizawl after the Minister’s scheduled visit to Siaha had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. Despite the change in plans, the meeting proceeded virtually to ensure that discussions on important district matters were not delayed.
Participating from the Mini Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Siaha were Deputy Commissioner VL Hruaizela Khiangte, senior district officials, heads of various government departments, and representatives of the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC).
At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner presented a brief overview of Siaha district, highlighting its geographical location, administrative structure, development activities, and key challenges. Officials from different departments also briefed the Minister on the implementation of government schemes, progress achieved under various programmes, and issues requiring attention from the state and central governments.
The Superintendent of Police, Siaha, informed the Minister that the law and order situation in the district remains peaceful. He stated that security agencies are maintaining strict vigilance along the international border to prevent illegal activities such as drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and unauthorized cross-border movement. The police and other security forces, he said, continue to work closely to safeguard the district and maintain public safety.
A major focus of the meeting was on border-related issues, given Siaha’s strategic location near the international boundary. Discussions covered concerns relating to border security, cross-border movement, and measures to curb illegal activities. Officials also highlighted the need for continued cooperation among various agencies involved in border management.
Apart from security matters, the meeting reviewed issues concerning international trade, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and public service delivery. Departmental representatives outlined achievements in their respective sectors while also drawing attention to challenges faced by residents in remote and border areas.
The Union Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring that development reaches even the most distant communities. He noted that border districts play a crucial role in national security and regional development and therefore require special attention in terms of infrastructure, connectivity, and public services.
Bandi Sanjay Kumar stressed the need for stronger coordination among the Assam Rifles, Mizoram Police, district administration, and village councils. He said effective collaboration among these stakeholders is essential not only for maintaining security but also for improving the welfare and quality of life of people living in border areas.
The Minister also underscored the importance of community participation in maintaining peace and preventing illegal activities. He encouraged local authorities and community leaders to continue working together to ensure stability and development in the district.

Officials attending the meeting welcomed the opportunity to directly interact with the Union Minister and present district-level concerns. They expressed hope that the discussions would help address some of the challenges faced by the region and facilitate better coordination with central agencies.
Accompanying the Minister during the virtual interaction were Andra Vamsi, IAS, Private Secretary to the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, along with the Protocol Officer and other state government officials.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from both central and district authorities to strengthen cooperation, enhance border security, and accelerate developmental initiatives aimed at improving the lives of residents in Siaha district and other border regions of Mizoram.
