Aizawl, April 28, 2026: The Deputy Commissioner of Aizawl district has ordered the closure of all schools in the district on Tuesday following heavy rainfall that could trigger landslides, mudflows and rockfalls in several areas.

In an official notice issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Er Lalhriatpuia, IAS, stated that continuous rainfall over the past few hours has raised concerns about possible natural hazards across the district.
As a precautionary measure for the safety and well-being of students, all schools in Aizawl district, including higher secondary schools, have been directed to remain closed on April 28, 2026.

The order was issued under the authority vested in the Deputy Commissioner under Section 30(v) read with Section 29(d) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
Officials said the decision was taken to prevent potential risks to students as heavy rains may lead to mudflows, landslides and falling rocks in vulnerable areas.
The directive has been circulated to various government departments, including the School Education Department, Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department, and local disaster management committees for necessary information and action.
