According to party sources, W. Chhuanawma submitted his resignation from the position of ZPM Vice President (elected) on April 22, 2026, citing health-related issues. However, the ZPM headquarters executive did not formally accept his resignation.

Despite this, the party decided to appoint another Vice President to fill the vacant slot, and Lalmuanpuia Punte - who is also a member of the ZPM Political Affairs Committee (PAC) - was selected for the post.

Party leaders stated that Punte had been considered from the beginning as a suitable candidate to occupy the Vice President position. The appointment was made after discussions within the ZPM headquarters executive.
