Tuichangral Games 2026 Kicks Off at Khawhai, Lalnghinglova Hmar Calls for Olympic Dreams

Khawzawl, April 14: Lalnghinglova Hmar, Minister for Sports & Youth Services of Mizoram, on April 13 inaugurated the Tuichangral Games 2026 at Khawhai Town Hall, calling on young athletes to prepare for future international competitions including the 2036 Olympics.

The opening ceremony was attended by Lalmuanpuia Punte, MLA of Hrangturzo and Adviser to the Chief Minister, as the chief guest. The event was organized by the Tuichangral Games & Sports Association (TGSA), with Senior Vice President Lalrengpuia Kawlni presiding over the function.

Speaking at the event, Lalnghinglova Hmar emphasized that India is preparing to host the 2036 Summer Olympics and highlighted the importance of Mizo youth taking part in sports to raise the country’s global standing. He urged sports leaders and communities to work together with the government to promote sports development and nurture young talent.

The minister stressed the need to focus on training athletes under the age of 16 in disciplines such as boxing, wrestling and weightlifting. He also announced financial assistance of ₹1 lakh each for eight selected sports disciplines in collaboration with state sports associations. Additionally, ₹15 lakh has been allocated for the improvement of the Khawhai playground, and annual financial support to Tuichangral GSA and Tuipuiral GSA has been increased.

Guest of honour Lalmuanpuia Punte praised the progress made by Tuichangral athletes and urged that sports be promoted as a means of unity and healthy competition rather than rivalry among communities.

Officials from departments including Women & Child Development, MBOCWW and LESDE also addressed the gathering. Government officials and local residents attended the ceremony in large numbers.

Tuichangral Games 2026 marks the 15th edition of the regional sporting event. Competitions will be held from April 13 to 22 and will include football and volleyball for men and women, along with under-16 events in boxing, wrestling and weightlifting. The games aim to identify and nurture young talents who could represent India in future international events, including the 2036 Olympics.
