Aizawl, April 13: Home voting for the General Election to Aizawl Municipal Corporation 2026 began on Monday to facilitate senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and voters suffering from serious illnesses who are unable to visit polling stations.
The home voting process, which started at 7:00 AM, will continue from April 13 to April 16, 2026. A total of 2,769 voters have applied for the facility, and arrangements have been made to complete the voting within the four-day period.
Earlier in the morning, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and other election materials were dispatched from the District Election Officer’s office in Aizawl to the respective municipal wards by the Municipal Returning Officers under the supervision of the General Observer.
Home voting will be conducted across all 19 wards of the Aizawl Municipal Corporation, with one home voting team assigned to each ward. Among the wards, Ward No. 2 recorded the highest number of applicants with 209 voters seeking to cast their votes from home.
Officials present during the dispatch of home voting teams included General Observers, election officers and staff representing the District Election Officer, Municipal Returning Officers (MROs), Assistant Municipal Returning Officers (AMROs), and nodal officers for home voting, EVMs, and information and publicity, along with representatives of political parties.
According to available information, the oldest voter to cast her vote through home voting is Pi Nghakliani, aged 102, a resident of Dawrpui Veng under Ward IX.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Excise and Narcotics, Government of Mizoram, has declared dry days in the entire area of the Aizawl Municipal Corporation in connection with the election. The prohibition on the sale and consumption of liquor will be in force from 4:00 PM on April 20 to 4:00 PM on April 21, 2026, the 48 hours preceding the conclusion of polling.
The dry day order will also apply on April 23, 2026, if re-polling is required, and on April 27, 2026, the day scheduled for the counting of votes. During these periods, the sale and consumption of intoxicating liquor and wine will remain strictly prohibited within the AMC area.
