Guwahati, April 14: In a move aimed at strengthening technology-driven governance, the Chief Secretary of Assam Ravi Kota on Tuesday chaired a virtual conference with senior officials ahead of an upcoming Artificial Intelligence (AI) Readiness Training Programme scheduled from April 20 to 25 at the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore.

The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary of the IT Department and the Secretary of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), along with 36 officers drawn from various services including IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS and ACS/ALRS. The officers represent departments such as Health, Transport, Finance, Police, Excise, Rural Development, Panchayat, Forest, Agriculture and Procurement, among others.
The initiative, described as the first of its kind in Assam, has been designed in collaboration with International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore and the EkStep Foundation to build a future-ready administrative ecosystem by integrating AI into governance processes.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary emphasised the importance of proactively adopting artificial intelligence to enhance efficiency, transparency and service delivery in public administration. He noted that the programme will help build institutional capacity for the informed and responsible use of AI in governance.

As part of the training, participating officers will also undertake exposure visits to leading technology institutions including Sarvam AI, Google DeepMind and the Infosys campus to gain insights into real-world AI applications.
The programme will combine conceptual learning, hands-on practice, peer collaboration and field exposure. It will culminate in the preparation of 90-day action plans aligned with departmental priorities, aimed at identifying practical use cases and strengthening AI infrastructure across the state.
Officials said the initiative reflects the state government’s vision to systematically incorporate artificial intelligence into governance and position Assam at the forefront of technology-enabled public administration.
