The meeting was attended by officials from the Home and Political Department, senior police leadership including the Assam Narcotics Task Force, the Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau, representatives of intelligence agencies and border guarding forces. Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police from various districts joined the review virtually.
According to the Chief Secretary, sustained enforcement efforts across districts have produced significant results. Cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) have remained above 3,000 annually, with 801 cases registered in 2026 up to March 31. Authorities reported numerous arrests, major drug seizures, disposal of narcotics, and the initiation of property forfeiture and preventive detention under PIT NDPS.
Ravi Kota stressed the need to move from action-based enforcement to impact-driven and intelligence-led operations. District administrations have been directed to identify at least 10 drug hotspots and trafficking routes each, dismantle entire trafficking networks including kingpins and financiers, track financial flows, and strengthen asset seizure and forfeiture mechanisms to ensure measurable reduction in drug availability and repeat offences.
The meeting also reviewed progress in institutional strengthening measures such as the distribution of drug detection kits, regular NDPS training for enforcement agencies, expanded awareness campaigns in educational institutions, and ongoing de-addiction and rehabilitation initiatives.

On infrastructure development, officials noted that civil works for the ₹1.50 crore drug incinerator project at the 14th Assam Police Battalion (APBN) in Doulashal, Nalbari have been completed, with funds released in phases, including ₹1.43 crore sanctioned in February 2026.
The Chief Secretary emphasized that while enforcement remains strong, the focus must now be on dismantling trafficking networks and achieving measurable outcomes in the state’s efforts to create a drug-free Assam.
