Sikkim Krantikari Morcha Leadership Finalises Urban Local Body Appointments After Poll Win

Gangtok, April 30, 2026: The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) on Thursday announced its nominees for key leadership posts across urban local bodies in Sikkim following its strong performance in the recently concluded municipal elections.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang with newly elected councillors and leaders of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha following the announcement of nominees for key posts in urban local bodies after the municipal elections in Sikkim.


The decision was taken during a high-level party meeting chaired by SKM president and Prem Singh Tamang. The meeting was attended by senior party leaders, ministers, MLAs and representatives from various urban local bodies.

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, SKM spokesperson Jacob Khaling said the party leadership held detailed discussions on the formation of new municipal bodies after the completion of the urban local body polls. He noted that 62 SKM candidates secured victory, adding that the number could have risen to 63 if polling had been conducted in Ward No. 17 of the Gangtok Municipal Corporation.

Senior SKM leader Arun Upreti announced the final list of nominees for various posts across nine urban local bodies in the state. He said the selections were made according to reservation categories notified by the State Election Commission and were unanimously approved by the party leadership.

For the Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation, reserved for ST women candidates, Tshering Palden Bhutia was nominated, while Sara Lama was selected for the post of Deputy Mayor.

In the Namchi Municipal Council, Ganesh Rai was nominated as Chairman and Saraswati Sharma as Vice Chairman.

For the Rangpo Nagar Panchayat, Sanjeev Kumar Khatri was nominated President and Sanju Manger as Vice President.

In the Singtam Nagar Panchayat, Mukesh Agarwal was nominated President and Bindhya Subba as Vice President.

For the Mangan Nagar Panchayat, Tshering Doma Bhutia was chosen President, while Norbu Rinchen Lepcha was nominated Vice President.

In the Gyalshing Nagar Panchayat, Khina Maya Tewari was selected President and Rinzing Bhutia Vice President.

For the Nayabazar Jorethang Nagar Panchayat, Samten Moktan Tamang was nominated President and Manjari Rai Vice President.

In the Soreng Nagar Panchayat, Dina Hangma Subba was chosen President and Dil Prasad Jogi Vice President.

For the Pakyong Nagar Panchayat, Inchung Bhutia was nominated President and Bhim Maya Chettri Vice President.

Upreti said all nominations had been formally approved and signed by the party leadership, adding that the selections reflected the reservation rules and collective decisions of the ruling SKM.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang also met newly elected councillors from the municipal elections at Samman Bhawan in Gangtok. He congratulated them and urged them to work with unity, integrity and transparency while prioritising the needs of the people to ensure inclusive development and effective governance in the state.
