Army Honour Ceremony Held in Gangtok, Black Cat Division Receives Appreciation

Gangtok, April 30, 2026: An honour ceremony recognising the contributions of the Indian Army and its Black Cat Division was held at Lok Bhavan on Thursday.

The event was attended by Om Prakash Mathur as the chief guest, while Prem Singh Tamang was also present on the occasion.

Senior army officials, including M. S. Rathore, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Black Cat Division, and newly appointed GOC Ashish Negi, attended the programme. During the ceremony, the Black Cat Division was presented with a letter of appreciation in recognition of its role in safeguarding the nation’s borders and contributing to social and development activities in the region.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Om Prakash Mathur said the occasion symbolised dedication, courage and service to the nation. He highlighted the strategic importance of Sikkim and praised the Indian Army for its significant role not only in national security but also in regional development.

The Governor also appreciated the Army’s efforts in developing tourist and heritage sites such as Nathu La Pass, Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple, Chola, the Sikkim Inspiration Site, and Doklam.

He further commended initiatives such as Operation Himrahat and Operation Goodwill, as well as projects aimed at improving living conditions in border villages and promoting tourism through cultural programmes, environmental initiatives, hydroponic projects, and civil-military cooperation programmes.

Officials from the Chief Minister’s Office, senior army officers and soldiers were also present during the ceremony.
