Haflong, April 30, 2026: The Dima Hasao Autonomous Council has completed 75 years of its establishment, marking a significant milestone in the governance and development of the hill district.

The council was founded on April 29, 1952, under Article 244(2) read with the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India, with the objective of ensuring autonomy, protecting the rights of tribal communities, and promoting self-governance in the hill areas of Assam.

Over the decades, the council’s responsibilities have expanded considerably. Initially entrusted with a limited number of subjects, the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council now administers 32 subjects, reflecting its growing role in regional governance and development.

On the occasion, Mohet Hojai extended greetings to the people of the district and called upon residents to join in celebrating the Platinum Jubilee year.

Although the official foundation day falls on April 29, the main jubilee celebration has been rescheduled to May 11 due to the Model Code of Conduct currently in force. Authorities said permission has been obtained for the event, but certain conditions have been imposed, including restrictions on the participation of political leaders.

Chairman Mohet Hojai emphasised the significance of the milestone and urged people from all sections of society to actively participate in the year-long celebrations commemorating 75 years of service to the people of Dima Hasao district.
