Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang Meets Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in New Delhi

New Delhi, April 9: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) met Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia in New Delhi on Wednesday and held detailed discussions on key developmental priorities of the state, with a focus on strengthening infrastructure, tourism, agriculture, and sustainable growth.

The meeting formed part of the Chief Minister's engagements with senior Union Ministers to secure continued support for Sikkim's development agenda and to accelerate the implementation of projects aimed at improving the socio-economic well-being of the state's people.

During the interaction, the two leaders reviewed the progress of several ongoing development projects while also discussing upcoming initiatives that are expected to contribute to Sikkim's long-term growth. Special emphasis was placed on strengthening infrastructure, expanding tourism opportunities, enhancing agricultural development, and improving connectivity to support the state's economy.

Chief Minister Tamang briefed the Union Minister on a number of new initiatives undertaken by the Sikkim Government to promote holistic and sustainable development. He highlighted the state's continued commitment to organic farming, which has positioned Sikkim as India's first fully organic state, and discussed efforts to further strengthen the agricultural sector through innovation and sustainable practices.

The Chief Minister also emphasised the government's focus on youth empowerment, skill development, entrepreneurship, and employment generation. He noted that empowering young people through education, training, and opportunities remains one of the key priorities of the state government as it works towards building a prosperous and self-reliant Sikkim.

During the meeting, Tamang expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) for its continued support in funding and facilitating developmental projects across Sikkim. He appreciated the Union Government's sustained commitment to the progress of the Northeastern region and shared the state's vision of achieving inclusive, balanced, and environmentally sustainable development.

The Chief Minister also extended a warm invitation to Union Minister Scindia to visit Sikkim and experience the state's breathtaking natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and peaceful environment. He said such visits would further strengthen cooperation between the Centre and the state while promoting Sikkim as a premier tourism destination.

Responding positively, Scindia assured the Chief Minister of the Ministry's continued support for Sikkim's developmental aspirations. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to working together to accelerate infrastructure development, improve connectivity, strengthen economic opportunities, and ensure the overall progress of Sikkim and the wider Northeastern region.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, reflecting the strong partnership between the Government of India and the Government of Sikkim in advancing the state's vision of sustainable, inclusive, and people-centric development.
