Gangtok, April 22: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) on Wednesday met Tshering Doma Sherpa and Sonam Sherpa at his official residence ahead of their participation in Women on Wheels (Experience North-East), Season 4, a unique initiative promoting women's empowerment through adventure, travel, and road safety.

The two participants, along with Ranjeeta Thapa, will represent Sikkim in the programme, which is scheduled to be held from April 24 to May 3, 2026. The event brings together women from across India for a multi-state road expedition across the Northeastern region, encouraging confidence, self-reliance, leadership, and greater participation of women in mobility and adventure activities.
During the interaction, the Chief Minister congratulated the participants for taking part in the prestigious initiative and commended their willingness to represent Sikkim on a national platform. He noted that programmes such as Women on Wheels not only encourage women to explore new opportunities but also inspire others to overcome traditional barriers and pursue their aspirations with courage and determination.
Tamang highlighted the importance of empowering women through meaningful participation in diverse fields, including adventure tourism, road travel, leadership, and community engagement. He observed that women today are excelling in every sphere of life and that such initiatives help strengthen confidence while promoting gender equality and inclusivity.
The Chief Minister also underlined the significance of the programme in showcasing the natural beauty, cultural diversity, and tourism potential of the Northeastern region. He said the expedition would provide participants with an opportunity to experience the rich heritage and traditions of the region while fostering friendship, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding among women from different parts of the country.
Reaffirming the state government's commitment to women's empowerment, Tamang said the Government of Sikkim remains dedicated to creating opportunities that enable women to realise their full potential. He added that several initiatives have been undertaken by the state to promote women's participation in education, entrepreneurship, governance, sports, and other sectors, ensuring that they play an active role in the state's development.

The Chief Minister encouraged the participants to make the most of the experience by learning from fellow participants, promoting responsible road safety practices, and serving as ambassadors of Sikkim's culture and hospitality during the journey.
Extending his heartfelt best wishes, Tamang wished Tshering Doma Sherpa, Sonam Sherpa, and Ranjeeta Thapa a safe, successful, and enriching expedition. He expressed confidence that they would represent Sikkim with pride and inspire many more women to embrace confidence, independence, and leadership through similar initiatives.
The Women on Wheels (Experience North-East) programme has emerged as a significant platform for promoting women-led travel, road safety awareness, and regional integration while celebrating the spirit of adventure and empowerment across Northeast India.
