Preparatory Inspection Held at Paljor Stadium Ahead of PM Modi’s Visit to Sikkim

Gangtok, April 14: With preparations gathering momentum for the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Sikkim later this month, a high-level preparatory inspection was carried out at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok on Monday to assess the readiness of the venue and ensure smooth execution of the upcoming programme.

The inspection was led by Chief Secretary R. Telang, who conducted a comprehensive pre-visit review of the stadium and surrounding facilities. The exercise forms part of the state government's extensive preparations for the Prime Minister's visit, which is expected to coincide with the closing ceremony of Sikkim's 50th Statehood Anniversary celebrations.

Senior officials from various government departments and Heads of Departments participated in the inspection to review infrastructure, logistics, security, and overall event management. The team examined every aspect of the venue to ensure that all arrangements meet the required standards for hosting a high-profile national event.

During the inspection, officials reviewed seating arrangements, entry and exit points, accessibility for dignitaries and the public, emergency response mechanisms, sanitation facilities, parking arrangements, and other essential services required for the smooth conduct of the programme. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring public convenience while maintaining strict security protocols.

The inspection team also assessed infrastructure readiness at the stadium, including the condition of the stage, public address systems, electrical installations, communication facilities, and crowd management measures. Officials discussed contingency plans and emergency preparedness to ensure that the event proceeds without disruption.

Security arrangements formed a major focus of the review, with officials coordinating plans involving multiple departments to ensure comprehensive safety measures during the Prime Minister's visit. Discussions covered access control, traffic management, medical support, disaster response preparedness, and coordination with central security agencies.

Chief Secretary Telang directed all concerned departments to complete their assigned responsibilities within the stipulated timeframe and maintain close coordination throughout the preparation process. He stressed that seamless communication and effective teamwork among departments would be essential to successfully hosting the Prime Minister's visit.

Officials also reviewed logistical planning, including transportation, protocol arrangements, accommodation for dignitaries, media management, and public facilitation. They reiterated the importance of timely execution of works and regular monitoring to ensure that every aspect of the programme is completed efficiently.

According to officials, the state government is committed to presenting Sikkim at its best during the Prime Minister's visit. The administration is working collectively to ensure that the event reflects the state's renowned hospitality, efficient governance, and meticulous planning while marking the historic Golden Jubilee celebrations of Sikkim's statehood.

The inspection concluded with directions for all departments to continue coordinated efforts and undertake regular reviews so that every arrangement is completed well in advance of the Prime Minister's arrival.
