Rymbui said the revised pay structure has already been implemented with effect from April 1, while salary disbursement under the new system will commence from May 1 or the first week of the month.
Describing the move as a major breakthrough, the minister said the reform addresses a long-pending issue that successive governments had struggled to resolve.
“This is a long-pending issue. I am happy that this could be resolved,” he said.
The revised pay structure will benefit teachers across several categories, including those under SSA, adhoc teachers, fourth teachers, and teachers under Hindi and science grant schemes.
Rymbui emphasised that the reform is not only about salary revision but also about recognising the contributions of teachers and ensuring their financial stability and dignity.
“It is not only about implementing a new pay structure, it is about giving them dignity and recognising their hard work,” he said.

However, the minister clarified that full parity with government employees may not be possible at this stage, though the government will continue efforts to gradually improve their conditions.
The reform forms part of the government’s Structured Pay Framework, which introduces a more transparent salary system based on years of service, fixed pay components, and provident fund contributions.
Officials said the initiative is expected to streamline salary disbursement and address long-standing concerns in Meghalaya’s education sector.
