Workshop at Mizoram University Highlights Responsible Use of AI in Academic Writing and Research

Aizawl, April 23: The Department of Library and Information Science at Mizoram University organised a workshop titled “Use of AI in Research: Tools and Techniques” at the Dean’s SEMIS Hall on April 23, drawing around 80 participants from various academic institutions.

The workshop focused on the growing role of artificial intelligence in academic writing and research, with experts highlighting the importance of responsible and ethical adoption of emerging technologies in scholarly work.

The programme featured resource persons Manoj Kumar Sinha, Head of the Department of Library and Information Science at Assam University, Silchar, and Rupak Chakraborty, Head of the Department of Library and Information Science at Panjab University, Chandigarh.

The session began with a welcome address by Manoj Kumar Verma, Head of the Department and Workshop Director, who outlined the objectives of the workshop and emphasised the increasing importance of AI in the academic landscape. Vanlalchhawna, Dean of SEMIS, also addressed the gathering and spoke about the expanding role of AI in various fields.

The workshop was formally inaugurated by Dibakar Chandra Deka, Vice-Chancellor of Mizoram University.

During the session, Prof. Sinha elaborated on the ethical use of AI tools in academic writing and research, stressing that while AI offers powerful capabilities for researchers, its use must remain transparent, responsible and aligned with academic integrity.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ruth Lalthlamuanpuii, Assistant Professor and Workshop Convener.

Structured in two sessions, the workshop combined theoretical discussions with practical demonstrations, providing participants with hands-on experience using AI-enabled research tools.
