Aizawl, April 29, 2026: The Mizoram Upa Pawl (MUP) held its 51st General Assembly at Vanapa Hall in Aizawl on Tuesday, with Lalzarmawii, Secretary of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development Department, attending as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Lalzarmawii highlighted the valuable contributions made by senior citizens to families, churches and society, expressing gratitude for their role in the development of the state.
She noted that the government had increased the Old Age Pension to ₹1,000, describing the move as an important step to support elderly citizens. She also expressed hope that the Multi Service Centre being constructed at Zemabawk, under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and to be managed by the MUP General Headquarters, would be completed soon.

The Secretary further stated that efforts are underway to improve the old age home at Ainawn Veng under the Social Welfare Department, while pension benefits under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) from both the Centre and the State are being processed for timely disbursement.
She also appreciated the cooperation extended by the Mizoram Upa Pawl to the government and expressed hope for continued collaboration in promoting social welfare and community development.
During the programme, MUP also honoured centenarians, noting that in 2025 alone, 10 individuals aged 100 years were felicitated with citations and a cash award of ₹1,000. Since 2010, the organisation has honoured 236 centenarians.
The event also included a condolence session for 1,945 deceased members of the association. Currently, the Mizoram Upa Pawl has 70,102 members and operates 13 branches, including one in the Jampui area of Tripura.
