Guwahati, April 25, 2026: A 27-year-old school teacher from Guwahati who went missing after sending a distress message to her family has been traced safe in Shillong, Meghalaya.

The woman, identified as Bhabana Sarma, was reportedly found inside a room at a branch of the State Bank of India near Polo Ground in Shillong. Bank employees who arrived early at the premises discovered her in a distressed condition and immediately alerted the local police.
According to reports, Sarma had gone missing on April 24 around 11 AM while travelling in a cab from Tetelia in Guwahati towards Azara. During the journey, she reportedly sent a message to her mother stating that she was “in danger” before her phone became unreachable.

Her last known mobile location was traced near the Gauhati University–Panbazar area, prompting concern among family members. Following the incident, her relatives filed a missing person complaint at Jalukbari Police Station, after which police launched a search operation.
After confirmation that she had been located in Shillong, Sarma’s family members, accompanied by a police team, have left for the Meghalaya capital to bring her back home.
Further details regarding how she reached Shillong and the circumstances surrounding the incident are expected to emerge after police questioning.
