Bihu Dancer Killed, 11 Injured in Late-Night Road Accident in Assam’s Tamulpur

Tamulpur, April 25: A 25-year-old Bihu dancer was killed and eleven others were injured in a late-night road accident at Naokata along the Tamulpur–Nagrijuli road in Assam’s Tamulpur district.

The victim has been identified as Nishamani Haloi, a resident of Niz Jhargaon in Tamulpur district. She died on the spot after the vehicle she was travelling in collided head-on with a speeding trailer.

According to police, the accident occurred when a Traveller vehicle carrying members of the Bhaskarjyoti Bihu Husori Team from Haribhanga in Nalbari district was heading to Bangalipara in Tamulpur to perform during the ongoing Rongali Bihu celebrations.

The Traveller, bearing registration number AS-25-DC-5893, was reportedly carrying around 30 members of the Bihu troupe at the time of the accident.

The vehicle collided with a trailer truck bearing registration number PB 03 AP 6681, which was approaching from the opposite direction.

Following the collision, eleven members of the troupe sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
