Meghalaya: Man Allegedly Beaten to Death by Co-Tenant in Mawblei; Accused Arrested

Shillong, April 26: A 40-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his co-tenant following a dispute in Mawblei on Saturday morning, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Sumeet Kr Singha (40). According to police, he was allegedly assaulted by Sanjay Kumar (42) inside their residential building at around 8 am.

During the altercation, the accused reportedly used a “No Parking” board as a weapon to attack the victim. Preliminary investigations indicate that the confrontation was triggered by suspicion from the victim, who believed the accused was having an affair with his wife.

The argument reportedly escalated quickly into a violent fight, during which Singha sustained serious injuries.

He was immediately rushed to Supercare Hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.

Confirming the incident, Vivek Syiem, Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills, said the accused has been arrested and a murder case has been registered.

“An altercation between the two led to the assault. The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway,” Syiem said.

Police have launched further investigations to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
