According to an order issued by the Home Department on April 25, internet services, including broadband, VSATs, and VPN services, will remain suspended in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts with effect from 2:00 PM on April 25, 2026.

The decision was taken following apprehensions that anti-social elements might misuse social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to spread images, hate speech, or inflammatory content that could incite violence and worsen the law-and-order situation.

The order stated that the suspension is intended to prevent the spread of misinformation and rumours, which could lead to mob mobilisation, vandalism, arson, or other violent activities that may endanger lives and public or private property.

Issued under Rule 3 of the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024, the directive was approved by the Governor of Manipur in the interest of maintaining peace and communal harmony.

The order has been circulated to relevant government departments, law enforcement agencies, and telecom service providers for immediate compliance.
