Shillong, April 14: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday reviewed the progress and future roadmap of the Meghalaya Forest Department, with a focus on strengthening conservation efforts, improving livelihoods and enhancing governance systems.

During the review meeting, discussions centred on expanding forest and tree cover, restoring degraded landscapes and promoting community-driven afforestation initiatives across the state. Officials also reviewed ongoing wildlife mapping exercises and plans to support eco-tourism and forest-based livelihood opportunities.

The Chief Minister emphasised the need to strengthen digital monitoring systems to improve transparency and efficiency in forest governance.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of addressing infrastructure gaps by strengthening frontline support, enhancing wildlife rescue systems and developing essential facilities to improve forest management across Meghalaya.
