Meghalaya: Missing .303 Rifle Recovered in Sohra; Three Youths Arrested

Shillong, April 15: Police have recovered a missing .303 rifle from the premises of Mawmluh Cherra Cements Limited (MCCL) in Sohra and arrested three youths in connection with the theft.

According to police, the incident came to light on April 11 when Home Guards personnel stationed at the MCCL factory discovered that a .303 rifle was missing from the storeroom of the administrative building. A case was immediately registered at Sohra Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

During the investigation, police detained two suspects - Shaiborlang Jyrwa (21) of Marai Thymmai and Sawbor Sooting (20) of Mawkisyiem for questioning. During interrogation, both allegedly confessed to stealing the rifle from the factory premises.

Acting on their statements, police conducted a search at a house in Mawkisyiem belonging to Alpha Mary Jyrwa, the grandmother of one of the accused. The missing rifle, bearing number 3709740, was recovered and seized in the presence of independent witnesses.

Police later arrested a third accused, Teilang Sohkhia (19) of Marai Thymmai.

All three accused have been taken into custody and will be produced before the court on Wednesday. Further investigation into the case is currently underway.
