Shillong, April 30, 2026: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat has notified the constitution of seven Assembly Committees for the 2026–27 term. The committees will function for one year beginning May 1, 2026, in accordance with the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Assembly.

According to the notification issued from Shillong, the committees constituted include the Committee on Petitions, Committee on Privileges, Committee on Subordinate Legislation, Committee on Government Assurances, Committee on Empowerment of Women, Committee on Environment, and the Library Committee.
Among the key appointments, Pongseng R. Marak has been named Chairman of the Committee on Petitions, while Marthon J. Sangma will head the Committee on Privileges. Gavin Miguel Mylliem has been appointed Chairman of the Committee on Subordinate Legislation, and Renikton L. Tongkhar will lead the Committee on Government Assurances.
The Committee on Empowerment of Women will be chaired by Santa Mary Shylla, while Rakkam A. Sangma has been appointed Chairman of the Committee on Environment. The Library Committee will be headed by Jim M. Sangma.

Each committee consists of 10 members drawn from the Assembly, who will oversee specific legislative and administrative responsibilities during the one-year tenure.
Officials said the committees play an important role in examining petitions, reviewing legislative procedures, monitoring government assurances, promoting women’s empowerment, addressing environmental concerns, and strengthening the Assembly’s library and research resources.
