Itanagar, April 30, 2026: Arunachal Pradesh athlete Chera Loku has brought laurels to India and her home state by winning a silver medal at the prestigious 5th World Taijiquan Championships held in Burgas, Bulgaria, from April 23 to 30.

Representing India on the global stage, Loku delivered an outstanding performance in the Taijiquan event, competing against some of the world's finest athletes from 38 countries. Her display of precision, balance, control, and technical excellence earned her a place on the podium at one of the most prestigious competitions organized under the aegis of the International Wushu Federation (IWUF).
The championship brought together elite Taijiquan practitioners from across the globe, with the core competitions taking place between April 26 and 29. Loku's silver-medal-winning performance highlighted not only her individual talent and dedication but also the growing stature of Indian athletes in international martial arts competitions.
Adding to India's strong showing at the championship, another athlete from Arunachal Pradesh, Mepung Lamgu, secured an impressive fifth-place finish, further underlining the state's emergence as a hub of wushu and martial arts talent.
Congratulating the athletes, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein described the achievement as a proud moment for both the state and the nation. He praised the dedication, discipline, and hard work demonstrated by the athletes and expressed confidence that their success would inspire young sportspersons across Arunachal Pradesh to pursue excellence in sports.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kento Jini also lauded Loku's achievement, stating that her success reflects the immense potential of athletes from Arunachal Pradesh to compete and excel at the highest international level. He noted that such accomplishments bring recognition not only to the athletes but also to the state's growing sporting ecosystem.
