Sohra, April 30, 2026: A 15-year-old girl from Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, went missing after she reportedly slipped and fell into Wei Sawdong Falls in Sohra on Wednesday morning, officials said.

The incident occurred around 11:30 am when the teenager, who was visiting the popular tourist destination with her parents and relatives, allegedly slipped while standing near the edge of the waterfall and was swept away by the strong current.
Police said the information was received from the Sordar of Laitduh, following which search operations were immediately launched. Officials stated that the girl had been attempting to take photographs at the scenic site when the accident happened.

Personnel from the Search and Rescue Team (SRT), along with police and the Meghalaya Fire and Emergency Services, were deployed to locate the missing girl. Rescue teams carried out extensive searches in the deep natural pools and surrounding areas of the waterfall throughout the day.
However, the operation was called off after sunset without any trace of the teenager.
A senior official said the SRT of the district will resume the search operation on Thursday to locate the missing girl.
Wei Sawdong Falls, known for its scenic beauty and multi-tiered cascades, attracts a large number of tourists every year. Authorities have urged visitors to exercise caution near slippery edges and strong water currents at the site.
