Manipur’s Churachandpur-Based Drug Ring Busted in Assam, Heroin Worth ₹7 Crore Seized

Guwahati, April 25: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police has busted an interstate drug trafficking network linked to Churachandpur in Manipur and seized 837 grams of heroin valued at around ₹7 crore during an operation at Amingaon.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the STF intercepted a group of alleged drug couriers reportedly led by Demthang Haokip (36), a resident of Tuibong in Churachandpur district. Haokip was apprehended along with four women from Churachandpur who were allegedly involved in transporting the narcotics.

Officials said the heroin was concealed inside 62 soap boxes and was being transported for distribution across several districts of lower Assam.

All five suspects have been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway to dismantle the wider trafficking network and trace the supply chain believed to originate from Manipur.
