Kuki Inpi Claims Presence of 50 Arambai Tenggol Militants in Ukhrul, Warns of Threat to Kuki-Zo Civilians

Churachandpur, April 25, 2026: Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has raised serious concern over what it described as a coordinated build-up of Meitei and Tangkhul militant groups in parts of Ukhrul district, warning that the development poses a threat to Kuki-Zo civilians.

In a press release issued on April 25 from the KIM Secretariat, the organisation claimed to have received confirmed inputs about the presence of over 50 militants belonging to the Meitei group Arambai Tenggol stationed at Sikibung in Ukhrul district. According to KIM, the militants are allegedly operating in coordination with Tangkhul militant elements.

The organisation said the development indicates a structured and coordinated militant deployment with possible implications for civilian safety and public order. It further alleged that several locations in Ukhrul district — including Sareikhong, T.M. Kasom, Leingangching, Sikibung, and Thoyee — are being used as bases for joint militant activities.

Kuki Inpi also raised concerns about the continued operation of what it described as an unauthorised Tangkhul militant camp allegedly linked to NSCN elements. The group claimed that the lack of visible enforcement action against the camp reflects a lapse in maintaining law and order in the region.

Additionally, the organisation alleged that a senior officer within the Manipur police establishment may have compromised operational integrity by sharing sensitive information about vulnerable Kuki villages, potentially facilitating targeted attacks. KIM stated that if proven, such conduct would amount to a grave breach of official responsibility and undermine the credibility of the security framework.

The organisation warned that the alleged convergence of Meitei and Tangkhul militant elements across multiple locations, along with what it termed the absence of effective containment measures, indicates a deteriorating security environment in Ukhrul district.

Kuki Inpi has called on the Government of India to take prompt and decisive action to dismantle militant camps, remove armed militant concentrations, and initiate an independent inquiry into the reported intelligence breach. It also urged authorities to ensure adequate security measures for the protection of vulnerable civilian populations.

The statement concluded by stressing that the situation warrants urgent intervention to restore order and uphold the rule of law.
