The initiative targets three sensitive regions in Churachandpur district that were identified as vulnerable to illegal poppy farming. Through sustained community engagement, village chiefs and 127 beneficiary households were persuaded to adopt alternative cash crops and lawful sources of income.
Under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the project received financial support of ₹28 lakh from Chennai-based technology firm Segula Technologies. With this assistance, Manipur Police distributed around 55,000 kg of ginger seeds, 450 kg of pea seeds, and 6,500 banana saplings to the identified beneficiaries.
Authorities said the programme aims to provide farmers with viable agricultural alternatives while discouraging involvement in illicit activities.

In the coming months, joint teams from Manipur Police, the NCB, and local NGO NARPS will conduct regular monitoring of the initiative. The teams will also offer guidance to farmers on cultivation practices, post-harvest management, and market linkages to ensure long-term sustainability.
Officials said the “HinChi” initiative represents a collective effort to transform vulnerable communities by promoting resilience, lawful livelihoods, and a safer future.
