Aizawl, April 21: Voting for the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) Elections 2026 was conducted smoothly on Tuesday, with polling taking place from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM under favorable weather conditions.

According to official reports, a total of 1,46,719 voters cast their votes during the polling. Among them were 66,415 men and 80,304 women. Detailed polling information has been made available on the official website of the Mizoram State Election Commission.
The AMC comprises 19 wards, where major political parties including the Indian National Congress (INC), Mizo National Front (MNF), and Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) fielded candidates in all wards, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contested in 11 wards. Altogether 68 candidates contested the elections, including 41 men and 27 women. Six wards—II, IV, V, XI, XII, and XVII—were reserved for women candidates.
Under AMC, there are 89 Local Councils and 264 polling stations. The election was conducted using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), although VVPAT was not used.
The electoral roll for the election included 2,39,985 voters, comprising 1,10,335 men and 1,29,650 women, with women voters exceeding men by 19,315. Ward XVIII recorded the highest number of voters with 18,906, while Ward VIII had the lowest with 7,975 voters.

Special arrangements were also made for elderly, seriously ill, and persons with disabilities through home voting, which was conducted from April 13 to April 16. During this period, 2,768 voters (93.71%) cast their votes through the facility.
To ensure transparency and fairness, polling personnel and EVMs were allocated through three rounds of computerised randomisation. After polling, the EVMs were securely stored in the DC Office strong room in the presence of general observers and representatives of political parties.
Counting of votes for the AMC Elections 2026 is scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM on April 27, 2026. If necessary, re-polling will be conducted on April 23, 2026, between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
