Manipur Governor, Chief Minister Khemchand Condemn TM Kasom Ambush; NIA Probe Ordered

Imphal, April 18: The Governor of Manipur has expressed deep anguish over the deadly ambush near TM Kasom in Ukhrul district that claimed the lives of two individuals, including a retired defence personnel.

In a statement issued by Lok Bhavan Manipur, the Governor strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a barbaric act of violence and a grave crime against humanity. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured that such acts of violence would be met with zero tolerance.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand also strongly condemned the killing of two civilians in the militant attack that occurred around 2:30 pm at TM Kasom village.

The victims have been identified as Chinaoshang Shokwungnao, a retired personnel of the Naga Regiment from Tashar village, and Yaruingam Vashum of Kharasom CV village.

Khemchand said the state government has decided to hand over the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for investigation. He also announced that ex-gratia assistance will be provided to the families of the victims.

Security forces have launched operations to apprehend those responsible for the attack. The minister expressed condolences to the bereaved families and said the government shares their grief during this difficult time.

The Governor also reiterated that such acts of violence would not be tolerated and assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible. Authorities have emphasised the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state.
