Police sources confirmed that Mominin had been evading arrest since violence erupted ahead of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council elections, which were initially scheduled for April 10 but later postponed until further notice due to security concerns.
The controversy began on March 9 when Mominin arrived at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Tura to file his nomination for the GHADC polls. During the visit, he was reportedly assaulted and prevented from submitting his nomination by a group protesting against non-tribal participation in the elections.
Later the same day, Mominin allegedly delivered an inflammatory speech at Chibinang, which authorities say contributed to heightened tensions and chaos in the region.

Subsequently, on March 10, Mukul Sangma filed an FIR against Mominin at Phulbari Police Station, accusing him of making inflammatory remarks and spreading misinformation that could incite communal disharmony. The complaint referred to a video that surfaced on March 9 allegedly showing Mominin making defamatory statements.
Following the incidents and escalating unrest across parts of Garo Hills, authorities cancelled the GHADC elections citing law and order concerns.
Police officials confirmed that Mominin has now surrendered and further legal proceedings in the case are expected to follow.
