Imphal, April 16: The Excise & Narcotics Department Mizoram seized more than 10 kilograms of methamphetamine and arrested four persons in connection with a drug trafficking case in Aizawl.

According to officials, the seizure was made at around 11:40 am near Folkland Park in Falkland locality. Authorities recovered 10.021 kg of methamphetamine and apprehended two individuals identified as Jakaria Hussain (28) and Taj Uddin (25), both residents of Karimganj district in Assam. A Maruti Wagon R allegedly used for transporting the drugs was also seized.
During further investigation, officials also arrested Lalnunziri (38), a resident of Khawmawi in Myanmar, who was suspected of supplying the methamphetamine from across the border. Another accused, Vanlalrintluanga (27) from Armed Veng South in Aizawl, was also taken into custody for allegedly facilitating the transportation of the contraband.

Apart from the drugs, the department seized five mobile phones believed to have been used for coordinating the trafficking operation.
The accused have been booked under Section 21(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and were produced before the Special Court (NDPS Act) in Aizawl.
Officials said the operation was part of a special enforcement drive launched by the department ahead of the upcoming elections of the Aizawl Municipal Corporation to curb illegal activities and drug trafficking in the region.
