With the launch event, Mizoram joined the rest of the country in beginning the first phase of the Census 2027, which will be conducted as India’s first-ever digital census. The Governor urged census field functionaries to carry out their duties with dedication and sincerity, ensuring that no household is left out during the enumeration process.

He also advised enumerators to clearly explain the process to residents who may find it difficult to understand, so that every individual and household can be properly recorded. The Governor appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to census officials to ensure the successful completion of the nationwide exercise.

During the programme, Mrs. H. Lalremruati, appointed as the enumerator for Lok Bhavan, successfully entered the Governor’s details using the Self Enumeration ID generated from his self-enumeration exercise conducted on April 7, 2026. With this step, the Governor formally completed his own houselisting and housing census.

Senior officials present at the event included Municipal Commissioner and Principal Census Officer Joseph H. Lalramsanga, Additional Secretary of the General Administration Department and Additional State Nodal Officer Irene Zohlimpuii Chongthu, along with other officials from the Directorate of Census Operations.

The Census 2027 will be conducted in two phases. The first phase, the Houselisting and Housing Census, began on April 1, 2026, with self-enumeration carried out nationwide until April 15. The houselisting operations will continue from April 16 to May 15, 2026, while the second phase, Population Enumeration, is scheduled for February 2027.

The government has urged all residents to provide accurate information to census enumerators during their house-to-house visits to ensure the smooth and efficient conduct of the census exercise.
