The views were expressed during a press briefing held at the Aizawl Press Club, where party leaders outlined the objectives and significance of the legislation passed by Parliament. The briefing formed part of the BJP’s efforts to create greater public awareness about the provisions of the Act and its potential impact on women’s political participation.

Addressing the media, Lalremsangi Fanai, Convener of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam campaign and BJP Mizoram State Joint Treasurer, stated that the legislation represents a historic step toward advancing the rights, dignity, and empowerment of women in India. She said the Act seeks to ensure greater participation of women in decision-making processes and public governance by providing them with increased opportunities to enter legislative institutions.

Fanai noted that the passage of the Women’s Reservation Act fulfilled a long-standing demand that had been debated in the country for decades. According to her, the legislation reflects the commitment of the NDA-led government to promoting gender equality and strengthening the role of women in nation-building.

She further stated that under the leadership of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), India has entered a new phase of development marked by efforts to expand opportunities for women in various sectors. The enactment of the Women’s Reservation Act, she said, is one of the most significant reforms undertaken in this regard.

The Act, formally known as the Constitution (106th Amendment) Act, 2023—popularly referred to as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam—provides for 33 percent reservation of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies. Party leaders emphasized that the legislation is expected to substantially increase women's representation in elected bodies and contribute to more inclusive governance.

BJP leaders also highlighted the symbolic significance of the legislation, noting that it was among the first major Bills passed in the new Parliament building after its inauguration. They described the development as a historic milestone in India’s democratic journey and a reflection of the country's commitment to empowering women politically.

During the briefing, party representatives stated that greater participation of women in legislative institutions would bring diverse perspectives into policymaking and strengthen democratic processes. They argued that increasing women’s representation would help address issues affecting women and families more effectively while promoting balanced and inclusive development.

The leaders further expressed hope that the implementation of the Act would encourage more women to participate actively in politics, public service, and leadership roles. They said the legislation has the potential to inspire future generations of women leaders and create a more equitable political landscape.

The BJP Mizoram leaders concluded by reiterating their support for initiatives that promote women’s empowerment and gender equality, describing the Women’s Reservation Act as a transformative reform that will have a lasting impact on India’s democratic institutions and governance structure.
