Tezu, April 28, 2026: The Lohit District Police foiled an armed extortion attempt targeting a highway construction project in Tidding area of Lohit district and arrested four accused, officials said on Tuesday.

According to T Jamba, Superintendent of Police (SP) Lohit, the police received a complaint on April 27 regarding threats issued to officials and workers engaged in a highway project being executed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
The accused allegedly claimed to be members of an association named All Arunachal Pradesh Reformed Delinquent Association and were demanding money from project authorities. On April 23, they reportedly entered the project site armed with firearms and threatened workers with serious consequences if their demands were not met.
Following the complaint, police registered a case at Tezu Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act, 1959, and launched an investigation.
Acting on credible inputs, the accused were traced to Roing, where they were apprehended with the assistance of the local police on April 28.

The arrested persons have been identified as Ngurang John (39) of Kurung Kumey district, Gangte Hamak (38) of Kurung Kumey district, Tai Apa (37) of Kurung Kumey district, and Tassar Kossum (35) of Kra Daadi district.
Police seized one SBBL gun, one air gun (.177), one MK pistol (.32), several live cartridges, magazines, along with mobile phones, cash, documents, a diary, a round seal and other materials from their possession.
Investigators also recovered a detailed list of construction companies operating in districts including Upper Subansiri, Dibang Valley and Upper Siang, along with project details and costs, indicating a possible systematic plan to target multiple development projects.
SP T. Jamba stated that the district police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of infrastructure projects and will take strict action against any unlawful activities.
