Viksit Bharat District Youth Parliament Held at ICFAI University Sikkim

Gangtok, March 2, 2026: My Bharat, Gangtok, in collaboration with The ICFAI University Sikkim, organised the Viksit Bharat District Level Youth Parliament at the university campus, bringing together 52 registered participants from Gangtok district.

The programme focused on the national theme, “50 Years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy,” encouraging students to reflect on the 1975 Emergency and its long-term impact on civil liberties, governance, and democratic institutions.

The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp followed by the rendition of Vande Mataram. Mr. Mangal Jakhar, Deputy Director, My Bharat Sikkim under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, delivered the welcome address, emphasising the role of youth in strengthening democratic institutions through informed dialogue and active participation.

Mrs. Sandhya Gurung, Dronacharya Awardee, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Mr. Ashish Trivedi, Assistant Commandant of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, attended as Special Guest. Dr. Rohit Rathi, Registrar of the University, welcomed the gathering and felicitated the dignitaries.

In her address, Mrs. Gurung urged youth to embrace the “3Ds” - Dedication, Discipline, and Determination — stressing that democracy thrives on responsible and active participation. Mr. Trivedi highlighted the importance of national unity, respect for institutions, and informed civic engagement.

Participants demonstrated strong understanding of parliamentary procedures, presenting reasoned arguments and policy perspectives grounded in constitutional values. The deliberations underscored the need for vigilance, institutional accountability, and protection of fundamental rights.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from participants to uphold democratic ideals and contribute meaningfully towards nation-building under the vision of Viksit Bharat.
