Addressing Commissioners of Food Safety and senior officials, Punhani emphasised the need for risk-based inspections and sustained surveillance in categories such as milk and milk products, edible oils, spices, and honey. He urged strict action against non-compliant Food Business Operators (FBOs) and directed States/UTs to undertake special enforcement drives while regularly sharing updates on actions taken.

Highlighting the importance of manpower, the CEO called for expediting recruitment to fill vacant posts of Food Safety Officers and technical personnel to strengthen on-ground implementation of the Food Safety and Standards Act. Adequate staffing, he said, is crucial to maintaining inspection coverage and enforcement intensity.

Punhani also stressed the need for time-bound resolution of consumer complaints and periodic high-level reviews to enhance accountability and public trust. Transparent communication of enforcement outcomes, he added, would help deter violations and reinforce consumer confidence.

The meeting deliberated on strengthening centralised surveillance systems, promoting data-driven decision-making, and improving coordination between FSSAI and State authorities. Discussions also focused on streamlining licensing and registration processes to balance ease of compliance with robust regulatory oversight.
