Rural Development Wins 1st Inter-Department Cricket Tournament in Sikkim

Pakyong, March 3: The Rural Development Department emerged champions of the 1st Inter-Department Cricket Tournament organised by the Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA), defeating the Commerce and Industries Department by seven wickets in the final held at the Sikkim Cricket Ground, Rangpo.

The final match, originally scheduled for March 1, was postponed due to rain. With a commanding performance, the Rural Development team secured the title in the tournament’s inaugural edition.

MLA Namthang Rateypani, Mr Sanjeet Kharel, attended the event as Chief Guest in the presence of Rural Development & Cooperation Minister Mr Arun Upreti.

Mr Binod Chettri of the Rural Development Department was named Player of the Final, while Mr Pempa Tamang of the Commerce and Industries Department received the Player of the Tournament award. Mr Pranil Pradhan from Rural Development finished as the Highest Wicket-Taker, and Mr Pempa Tamang was the Highest Scorer of the tournament.

The winning team was awarded a cash prize of ₹10 lakh, while the runners-up received ₹5 lakh. The prize money was sponsored by the State Bank of Sikkim (SBS).

A total of 28 government departments and public sector undertakings (PSUs) participated in the tournament, aimed at fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and promoting a vibrant sporting culture among government employees in the state.
