Churachandpur, February 23, 2026: The Zomi Students’ Federation – General Headquarters (ZSF-GHQ) has announced a 24-hour closure of all business establishments, educational institutions, and offices (both public and private) in Lamka and surrounding areas on February 24, 2026, starting from 6:00 AM.

The decision was taken as per the direction of the Zomi Council (ZC) following the demise of Pu Vungzagin Valte, MLA of 56 Thanlon Assembly Constituency. The federation issued the declaration through a press release dated February 23, 2026.

ZSF-GHQ has appealed to the public to cooperate in observing the closure as a mark of respect to the departed leader. The organization has also urged people to participate in receiving the mortal remains of the late MLA, which are expected to arrive in Lamka at around 12:00 noon on February 24.
As a tribute, residents have been requested to hoist black flags in front of their homes in honor of the deceased.
However, exemptions have been granted to students appearing for Board and Council examinations. Such students have been directed to carry their admit cards. Essential services will also remain exempted from the closure.
Expressing condolences, the federation prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family and loved ones of the late elected representative.
